ABOUT MARCHFEST

MARCHFEST

MarchFest is a unique craft beer and music festival, held in New Zealand’s sunniest city, Nelson, at the top of the South Island. Set in the beautiful, traffic-free environment of Founders Heritage Park, the 10th MarchFest takes place on Saturday March 25th, 2017. The Nelson region is New Zealand’s sole hop growing area – and it exports world class hops globally - as well as supplying local breweries, of course.

Unlike ordinary beer festivals, all the beers available at MarchFest have been specially commissioned for the event and have never previously been tasted by the public. Every year around 15 regional craft breweries sign up to produce a new beer for the event. These beers all make their world debut at Marchfest.
Top of the South breweries include Dale's, Eddyline, Founders, Golden Bear, Hop Farm, Hop Federation, Horsebox, Lighthouse, McCashin’s, Moa, Mussel Inn, Renaissance, Sprig and Fern and Townshend’s.Unlike other beer festivals,

MarchFest is not just about beer. It’s also about local wines, ciders and juices, regional cuisine (including a beer and food matching lunch) as well as its ‘event genre mash-up’ insistence on being a craft beer festival, an indie/world music gig, a hops showcase, an educational forum for home/wannabe brewers and a family-friendly day out. It’s hard to believe such a combination can work, but the thousands of people who attend each year are testimony that it does!

Great live music is always a big feature of Marchfest. The strong line-up for 2017 includes New Zealand's hip-hop soul queen, Ladi 6, festival favourites The Eastern and skanking ska band Battle-Ska Galactica. Supporting will be wacky ukulele artist Russ from Alaska plus cool Nelson acts Not Bruce Willis, Django Schmango and the Ragged Crow Morris.
Welcome to MarchFest, Nelson and New Zealand's beer flavoured festival - a celebration of music, food, fun and of course, proper beer. The next MarchFest is on Sat 25th March, 2017 at Founder’s Heritage Park, Nelson, NZ All tix and event info at www.marchfest.com

2017 HIGHLIGHTS - NELSON BEER WEEK

MarchFest has announced the live music acts for its tenth craft beer festival. The strong line-up includes New Zealand's hip-hop soul queen, Ladi 6, festival favourites The Eastern and skanking ska band BattleSka Galactica. Supporting will be wacky ukulele artist Russ from Alaska plus cool Nelson acts Not Bruce Willis, Django Schmango and the Ragged Crow Morris.

MarchFest is also celebrating its tenth year by expanding craft-beer related events in the region to a whole week, with the announcement of the inaugural ‘Nelson Beer Week’ running from March 18 - 26th at venues around the region. Craft beer-related events at bars, restaurants, hop farms and even golf courses will allow Kiwi breweries from outside Nelson to get involved as well as local breweries. At least 14 brand new beers from local craft breweries will make their debut at MarchFest including brews from Dale's, Eddyline, Founders, Golden Bear, Hop Farm, Hop Federation, Lighthouse, McCashin’s, Moa, Mussel Inn, Renaissance, Sprig and Fern and Townshend’s. The commercial brewers will be joined by the winner of the MarchFest 2017 Home-brewers' Brew competition, Karl Summerfield, whose Saison beer will be commercially brewed for MarchFest. No stranger to this competition, Karl was part of a winning duo last year and this year has gone one better, taking out the prize all on his own.
Nelson Beer Week is a 9 day showcase of Kiwi Craft Beer embracing amazing local cuisine and fun events that are unique to Nelson in the lead up to the 10th MarchFest. Beer tourism is on the rise and already there is a dedicated group of MarchFest attendees who appreciate craft beer and love coming to Nelson. Nelson Beer Week is a chance for locals and visitors to explore beyond normal ‘beer experience boundaries’ for more than just a weekend.

Nelson Beer Week is aiming to bring together breweries, bars, restaurants, retailers and other businesses to promote Nelson and Tasman as a fabulous and fun destination for an annual week-long craft beer pilgrimage. Events will include Food and Craft Beer Pairings, tap takeovers, a Tahunanui Tuesday, the renaming of the Boathouse to The Brewhouse for a week, ‘Hops and Holes’ craft beer golf tournament and more. Nelson Beer Week (NBW) attendees can also pick up a “Beer Week Spotter Logbook” in which they can collect NBW stamps by participating in an event. Once 5 stamps are collected they will receive a special Nelson Beer Week commemorative item which can picked up at MarchFest on presentation of the Nelson Beer Week Spotter Logbook.

Nelson Beer Week also includes the New Zealand HomeBrewers’ Conference, which made its highly successful debut in 2016, taking place on Sunday March 26th.

Marchfest tickets are available The Free House, Nelson I-Site, some NBS Branches, Crema Coffee Kart or online at www.marchfest.com Earlybird tickets ($32) are available until Feb 18. Tickets for

The Programme’s objective is to stimulate Nelson City’s economy in the shoulder and off seasons by bringing new spending through visitors coming to Nelson for distinct events.
