MarchFest - A unique craft beer and music festival
Held in New Zealand’s main hop growing region Nelson, at the top of the South Island. Unlike ordinary beer festivals, all the beers available at MarchFest have been specially commissioned for the event and have never been previously tasted by the public. 2018 was the biggest MarchFest yet, with a sell-out crowd of more than 4000 people enjoying the one-day event, all set in the beautiful, traffic-free environment of Founders Heritage Park.
Marchfest is the keynote event of Nelson Beer Week (NBW) now in its third year. Last year over 25 fun beer-related events were held across different venues, involving great beers from Kiwi breweries all over the country.
NEW for 2019 is a TASTING BAR so that festival-goers can sample a paddle of 5 taster-sized brews. A marquee will be added to the Brew Zone, dedicated to the tasting of this year’s 15 brand new beers. Beer lovers can sit at tables, sample a few beers before going to the main bars to enjoy more of their favourites. Live music acts include The Narcs, Press Roll and Ben Catley, headlined by Marchfest crowd favourites, Newtown Rocksteady! MarchFest also includes the Brew Zone where beers are created on the day and the Gourmet Beer and Food Matching Lunch. It’s also about local wines, ciders, regional cuisine, a hops showcase and an educational forum for home/wannabe brewers.
Last but not least, MarchFest is an event where responsible drinking and good parenting go hand-in-hand. There is heaps of cool stuff for kids to do in the Kids Zone. It’s hard to believe such a combination can work, but the thousands of people who attend each year are testimony that it does!
